Your home language is the only subject you are not allowed to fail. Additionally, you may only fail one (1) subject. Some students even succeed with a Matric Pass Level for a Bachelor’s Degree while failing one of the aforementioned subjects.

What Is The Matric Passing Score?

40% is the cutoff for passing the Matric exam.

To pass Matric is the only purpose, though. You must raise your grades to at least 60% and higher if you wish to be admitted to university or be eligible for a grant or scholarship.

You must obtain the following marks in order to receive the lowest Matric Pass Level:

  •  40% off your Home Language
  •  40% for two (2) other subjects
  • 30% for the rest of the subjects
  • You may fail (1) one subject

This is called a National Senior Certificate Matric Pass Level.

How many subjects must I pass To Get Matric?

To pass Matric, you must pass six high school subjects. This indicates that at least one subject can be failed, but not your home language.

You must also pass the remainder of your subjects with a grade of at least 40% or better.

Adult Matric students are subject to the same regulations. You only need to pass five of the topics, though. This is so because Life Orientation is not a part of the Adult Matric Course.
