In South Africa, there are about 50 registered TVET colleges that operate under the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) with their Educare courses and programs evaluated by Umalusi. Currently, the TVET Colleges are open to admitting prospective students who want to take up a career in teaching young children (Educare).

Educare provides students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to work with children up to 4 years old and start their own daycare. By enrolling in these education courses, students will learn how to identify signs and symptoms of child illnesses, plan and present lessons, create classroom equipment, manage staffing, and handle budgets. The program also includes weekly experiential learning opportunities through visits to schools, offering continuous exposure to the industry.

TVET colleges, especially those in countries like South Africa, offer Educare as a vocational program designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to work in early childhood education settings. Early childhood development is an important component in the quickly evolving educational landscape of today. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes’ Educare courses are becoming more and more well-known in this field as a symbol of high-quality training.

What Is the Educare Course?

The Educare course is a practical and theory-based training program designed to prepare individuals for careers in early childhood development. It is offered at many TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) Colleges across South Africa and focuses on equipping students to care for and educate children from birth to five years old.

This course is a good choice for those who are passionate about working with young children and want to make a positive impact in their early years. Students who enrol in the Educare course are trained to work in a variety of settings such as preschools, nursery schools, crèches, and daycare centres. It is also suitable for anyone who plans to open and manage their childcare facility.

The course includes subjects like child development, early learning support, communication, health and safety in a childcare environment, and the basics of managing a daycare centre. It focuses on both the emotional and educational needs of young children, giving learners a well-rounded foundation in early childhood education.
