TRAINING OF TOURIST GUIDES
To be accepted for registration, tour guides must have received training from approved training organizations. Before training begins, tour guides are tasked with checking the training providers’ registration status.

Requirements for Tourist Guide Registration
Each of the nine provinces has a Provincial Registrar who is responsible for registering tour guides. The following minimal standards must be met in order to register as a tourist guide in South Africa:
- be a South African citizen or be in possession of a valid work permit;
- must have undergone training with a CATHSSETA-accredited training provider or any other accredited institution that offers programs recognized by SAQA;
- be in possession of a valid first aid certificate from an institution recognized by the Department of Labour;
- pay a registration fee of R240 (Renewable every 3 years)
- submit 4 passport-size photos;
- must submit a completed and signed registration form and the code of conduct and ethics upon registration.
Registration as a Tourist Guide
Before becoming certified, tour guides must fulfill specific requirements. You must possess the necessary credentials and training, adhere to the code of conduct, and have first aid training in order to work as a licensed tourist guide.
