How Long Is A Community Health Worker Course? What is the community health worker level?

Community Health Workers (CHWs) play an important role in bridging the gap between healthcare providers and underserved communities. The purpose of this course is to introduce learners to the various aspects of community-based Care and to encourage them to gain experience as Caregivers in their respective communities. Duration: This is a one-year qualification comprising knowledge subjects, practical skills modules and work experience modules.

Community Health is not offered as a major at the undergraduate level. Students must, with every registration for the BA (CUR), submit their Annual Practising Certificate (issued by the South African Nursing Council (SANC) or Nursing Authority in the relevant country), indicating registration as a general nurse and a midwife. Students who are not registered as a midwife may only register for BA (CUR)-HHS. Neither an enrolled nurse nor an auxiliary nurse may register for this qualification.
