How Long Is A Community Health Worker Course? What is the community health worker level?

But you may be thinking how long does it take to complete a community health worker course? The answer varies but normally, CHW courses can last from a few months to 2 years.

It depends on the type of certification or degree you are aiming for as well as the institution offering the program. Note that some programs may include internships, or fieldwork, which can add to the overall duration.

Community Health Workers (CHWs) play an important role in bridging the gap between healthcare providers and underserved communities. The purpose of this course is to introduce learners to the various aspects of community-based Care and to encourage them to gain experience as Caregivers in their respective communities.

Community Health Workers Requirement Required

  • Community Health Work Level 3/Grade11 with passes in Mathematical literacy and English
  • Possession of Grade 12 is an advantage
  • Computer Literacy at NQF Level 3 is strongly recommended

Duration of Community Health Workers Course

At least 12 months. It has Theory, Practical, and Workplace Training components.

  • Integrated General Nursing Sciences I
  • Anatomy for Nursing Sciences I

Second-year

  • Physiology and Medical Biochemistry

  • Integrated General Nursing Sciences II

Third-year

  • Pharmacology
  • Midwifery I
  • Integrated General Nursing Sciences III

Fourth-year

  • Midwifery II
  • Integrated General Nursing Sciences IV
