The Matric test, often known as the 10th-grade board exam, lays the groundwork for future academic endeavours and career decisions. The least amount of time you can finish your matric course is 12 months. In South Africa, students who successfully finish Grade 12 of high school are given a National Senior Certificate (NSC), also referred to as a Matric. A National Senior Certificate must be finished in 3 to 5 years. The National Senior Certificate (NSC) consists of studies completed in Grades 10, 11, and 12, and you must pass these grades to be awarded the certificate.

Matric usually lasts for one school year. Students begin their Matric year at the start of the year and finish with final exams at the end. If needed, some students can extend their Matric, for example, by taking extra exams or joining Adult Matric programs.

Matric Entry Requirements

Here are the entry requirements:

  • Have a Grade 9 or GETC: ABET Level 4 Certificate
  • Be at least 21 or older. You can apply at the age of just 19 years old, but you have to turn 21 when you write the final Matric exam
  • Understand, read and write English or Afrikaans
  • Study through distance learning

Can You Finish Matric In Just Three Months

You can complete your Matric in 3 months. Here are the prerequisites:

  • Failed Matric
  • Incomplete Matric
  • Passed Matric
  • Statement of Matric results

You can apply for our Matric Upgrade Course if you have any of the aforementioned documents. You can alter your subject and raise your grade in this course. The admission requirements are as follows:

  • Must already have completed Matric and provide the above-mentioned documents
  • Understand, read and write English
  • Study through distance learning

How Many Subjects Do You Need To Pass Matric In South Africa?

To study Matric in South Africa, you need to take seven (7) subjects. While you can complete Matric by passing only six (6) of these subjects, it is not recommended, as passing all subjects will make it easier for you to gain admission to the university.

For the Adult Matric Course, you are required to complete six (6) subjects. You can pass as few as five (5) subjects to finish the course, but it’s advisable to pass all of them to improve your chances when applying to university.
Universities look for students with good marks and require a Bachelor’s Degree Pass for admission. Your acceptance will also depend on meeting any additional requirements they have.
