Who Can Apply For A Matric Rewrite?
you may apply for Matric Rewrite if you have the following requirements:
- You already wrote Matric and have a Matric Certificate but want to improve your results
- You did not pass the Matric
- You missed an exam due to an illness or family circumstances
- You are younger than 21 years old
If you are older than 21, you can apply for a Matric Upgrade.
You do not qualify for a Matric Rewrite if you need to rewrite four (4) subjects to get a National Senior Certificate Pass (the lowest Matric Pass Level).
Which Month Can I Rewrite my Matric?
The following opportunities to rewrite exist:
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) supplementary exams – March
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) progressed learners (learners who wrote the NSC the previous year but did not sit for all 6 subjects) – June
- Part-time NSC candidates (learners who attempted the NSC examinations post) – November

If I Am Not Qualified For A Matric Rewrite What Can I Do
If you want to continue studying but are unable to retake your Matric, you can:
- Re-enroll at a High School to repeat your Grade 12 year, if you are under the age of 21
- Apply at a Public Adult Education Centre, if you are over the age of 21
- Enroll in a National Certificate Vocational (NCV) Course at a Further Education and Training (FET) College
- Study without Matric
