How Many Years Do You Study For Primary Health?

How many years does it take to study primary health? The answer varies based on the specific role and qualification you aspire to. Some primary health careers may require a diploma or certificate, while others demand a degree or even a postgraduate certificate. Primary Healthcare (PHC) is a holistic approach to health that aims at ensuring the highest possible level of health and well-being of society.

It also ensures the equitable distribution of health care by focusing on people’s needs and addressing them timeously along the continuum from health promotion and disease prevention to treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care. PHC is rooted in a commitment to social justice, equity, solidarity, and participation.

NOTE: The program is offered as a full-time course over three years and is made up of the following 3 Fundamentals and 4 Vocational subjects or modules per level.

Admission Requirement For Primary Healthcare

Applicants must have a senior Certificate or an equivalent; submit proof of current registration with the following:

  • SANC as a General Nurse
  • SANC as a Midwife
  • Membership of a professional body for indemnity purposes e.g. DENOSA, SAMWU, NEHAWU, etc

What Is The Duration Of The Primary Healthcare course

The B Tech: Primary Health Care Nursing qualification is offered as a one-year full-time or two-year part-time program. Full-time students have two years to complete the course and part-time students have four years to complete the course.
