How Many Years Does It Take To Study Hospitality At TVET College?

One of the most important questions you could have if you’re thinking about enrolling in a TVET college to study hospitality is, “How many years does it take?” Depending on the level of qualification you seek, TVET universities’ hospitality programs normally last one to three years.

The Hospitality industry is a broad category of fields within the Service Industry that includes lodging, food and drink service, event planning, theme parks, and transportation. It includes hotels, restaurants and bars. This includes the reception and entertainment of guests and visitors.

Hospitality L2-L4

The NC(V) is a high-quality, high-knowledge vocational program aimed at directly addressing the top skill demands of the contemporary market. A student must take a total of seven (7) subjects to earn an NC(V) qualification, of which three (3) are required (i.e., English First Additional Language, Mathematics OR Mathematical Literacy, and Life Orientation) and four (4) are vocational subjects drawn from the NQF’s sub-field organization.

What subjects do I need to study hospitality?

In addition to the general admission requirements, a minimum mark of 50% in one of the following subjects is recommended: Accounting, Mathematics, Business Economics, Economics, Mercantile Law, Hotel-keeping and catering, or Home Economics.

DURATION OF PROGRAMME

The NC(V) qualification is a full-year program at each level of the NQF. A student is issued with a certificate at each level of study. The duration of the full qualification is three (3) academic years, made up of NQF Levels 2, 3, and 4. A student can exit at any level of study and will be issued with a certificate at the specific level.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • A year-end school report for Grades 9, 10, and 11 or a Grade 12 Certificate
    OR
  •  NQF Level 1 qualification
    OR
  • An approved bridging program designed for the specific purpose of accessing NQF Level 2
    OR
  • AET Level 4

ENROLMENT DATE

January of each year.
