Matric Rewrite Age Limit
You must be younger than 21 years to retake your matric. You may apply for a Matric Upgrade if you are 21 years of age or older.

Who Is Eligible For The Matric Rewrite?
You must fulfil the following criteria in order to be eligible for a Matric Rewrite:
- You must be younger than 21
- You must have written Matric before, and have proof of your results
- You must be able to understand, read, and write in English or Afrikaans
You can perform a Matric Rewrite if you satisfy all of these conditions. Your grades in as many as four subjects can be raised. Any subject you choose cannot be changed. The subjects you choose to study for your Matric final exams must be rewritten.
What Is the Cost of a Matric Rewrite
Registration for a Matric Rewrite or Matric Upgrade with the Department of Basic Education (DBE) is free. Studying for your Matric Rewrite or Matric Upgrade, however, won’t be free.
You will be required to pay for your textbooks, stationery, and the tuition at the school where you are taking your Matric Rewrite or Matric Upgrade.
How Much Time Does a Matric Rewrite Take
A Matric Rewrite will take a minimum of three months to complete. Each year in the first few days of February, registration for the matric rewrite closes. Exams are held in

- October/November each year.
