The National Certificate Vocational (NCV) program is designed to give students the information and abilities needed to prepare for a variety of jobs. The NCV courses begin with Level 4, and passing it is a great effort. However, how many courses must you pass to earn a Level 4 NCV qualification?

There are three stages in the NCV program: Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4. The highest level, Level 4, is when your NCV studies come to an end. The following prerequisites must normally be met in order to earn a Level 4 NCV qualification:

National Certificate (Vocational) (NCV) Guidelines

The minimum admission requirement for a Bachelor’s degree program is a National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 given by the Council for General and Further Education and Training, according to institutional admission standards. The following must be completed as minimal legal requirements for entry to a bachelor’s degree program:

  • Three (3) fundamental subjects between 60 – 69% (3) (including English as the language of learning and teaching at Wits)
  • Three (3) vocational subjects from the designated list between 70 – 79% (4).

If an applicant with an NCV meets the following institutional requirements, in addition to the Faculty and degree-specific requirements, he or she may be invited to write a test. A candidate must possess:

  • Taken English as either a Language of Learning and Teaching or as the First Additional language
  • Taken Mathematics as a Fundamental Component
  • Achieved 70 – 79% (4) for all seven subjects – in fundamental and vocational categories.

What is the pass mark for NCV?

Each test requires a passing score of 50%. Only 5–10 days following the test date will students receive their results. Both exams must be passed in order for students to receive an application form. You must have achieved success in pure mathematics in the grade you passed if you are interested in pursuing any of the engineering certifications.

How many subjects are there in NCV?

Applicants with an NCV 4 may be accepted by some colleges for some bachelor’s degree programs.   • National Diploma at NQF Level 6;
  • Bachelor’s Degree at NQF Level 7.
