Requirement For Police In South Africa 

Here’s a list of requirements to qualify as a police in South Africa:

  • Be a South African citizen by birth.
  • Be at least 25, but under 40 years of age, of which documentary proof must be furnished.
  • Have a valid driver’s license.
  • With no criminal record.
  • Able to communicate in English and another South African official language
  • Complete a health questionnaire, at his or her own cost, which is confirmed by a registered medical practitioner.
  • Have a Matric certificate.
  • Be prepared to take an oath of office and also to undergo a psychological assessment and training.
  • Allow fingerprints to be taken.
  • Prepared to have a background check.
  • Be medically, mentally, and physically fit to perform duties.

South Africa Police Training Period 

Your training can take up to four years. There are generally two phases to complete the training which normally takes place at the academy and at the workplace you will be posted to.

Note: The trainee program is on trial for 24 months. All SAPS recruits are required to complete the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP). Twelve months of the training will be spent at the academy, and the last twelve months will be spent on the job.
