Nursing Minimum Entrance Requirements

By the Western Cape Provincial Administration bursary requirements, all learner nurses entering the nursing program must pass with a D (matriculation before 2008) or Level 4 (matriculation beginning in 2008) aggregate at the Grade 12 Level (FET certificate or Grade 12 (Matric) certificate with an APS score of at least 30, as well as have permission as indicated on the Grade 12 certificate to register for a Bachelor of Nursing Science degree.

Bachelor of Nursing (60070) – Full Time

  • Meet the minimum NSC statutory requirements for degree entry.
  • If you have NSC Grade 12 Mathematics: minimum Applicant Score of 370, with at least 50% in Mathematics, 50% in Physical Sciences, and 60% in Life Sciences.
  • If you have NSC Grade 12 Mathematical Literacy: minimum Applicant Score of 385, with at least 65% in Mathematical Literacy, 50% in Physical Sciences, and 60% in Life Sciences.

Bachelor of Nursing Extended (60075) – Extended Program

  • Meet minimum NSC statutory requirements for degree entry.
  • For NSC Grade 12 Mathematics: minimum Applicant Score of 330, with at least 35% in Mathematics, 50% in Life Sciences, and 40% in Physical Sciences.
  • For NSC Grade 12 Mathematical Literacy: minimum Applicant Score of 345, with at least 55% in Mathematical Literacy, 50% in Life Sciences, and 40% in Physical Sciences.

Bachelor of Nursing Extended (60075) – Full Time Extended (Missionvale Campus)

  • Same admission requirements as above for the Extended Program apply.

Master of Nursing (65000) –  Full Time & Part Time

  • Candidates must hold a relevant Bachelor of Nursing degree with an average of at least 60%, or an equivalent qualification.

National Vocation Certificate

  • National Vocational Certificate, equivalent to Grade 12 at a NQF level 4, and compulsory subjects:
  • English level 5
  • Life (Biology) level 5 or Physical Science level 4
  • Mathematics Literacy level 5 or Mathematics level 4
  • Minimum 26 points (27 points if Mathematical Literacy applies), which excludes Life Orientation
  • Computer Literacy (NQF Level 3) will serve as a recommendation
