If you’re a student in South Africa, you might have run upon the term “APS score” while looking into further education choices. But what does a score of 18 on the APS represent in reality?

South African universities use the APS, a standardized method, to assess applicants’ academic credentials. Your success in high school, specifically on the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams, is given a numerical value.

When deciding whether to attend university, there are several things to take seriously, one of which is estimating your APS. So, what exactly is the APS and how is it determined?

What is an APS?

How does this work? Admission Points Score is referred to as APS. Universities use the APS as a quick and simple technique to decide whether prospective students are qualified to enroll in a qualification, such as a diploma degree.

Your APS is determined by your final Matric scores. The APS is essentially calculated in a unique way at each South African university, and UNISA is no exception. With UNISA, candidates are required to meet or exceed the specific entrance standards in order to be eligible for a particular field of study in addition to having the proper APS.  17 APS Score Courses

 APS Calculation

Your National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination performance as it relates to the specifications for a certain program to which you may apply is measured by your Admission Points Score. You can use this tool to calculate your APS and determine whether you qualify for admission to a specific program.

We always include the percentages achieved in English as well as any other disciplines necessary for admission to a specific program when calculating your APS. We don’t count the percentages you received in topics from the Advanced Programme (also known as “AP”) or any other subject that isn’t an official NSC subject.

For a program that requires math and physics, for instance, they use your APS to calculate your scores in math, English, physics, and the next three best topics afterlife orientation. For any topic, grades below 40% are not awarded.

How Can the APS Help Universities?

Every university makes use of APS. The APS simplifies the university application procedure. By fairly rejecting applications that don’t fit its standards, it makes it much easier for the university to manage the volume of applications it receives.

In order to find out if they qualify for university education, students can also take the National Benchmark Test (NBT). The National Benchmark Test is a series of exams that universities provide to candidates to gauge their level of preparedness for higher study. Here are further details on the NBT.

What APS score should I aim for?

The APS Score you receive should correspond to your needs as a student. This implies that you should apply to programs that align with your matric results or that you should work toward that appropriate for the program you want to apply for.

Does a Matric Pass Level Equal an APS Score?

No, a Matric Pass Level and an APS Score are not equivalent. Your Matric Pass Level as well as the percentages and codes you obtain for each subject in high school are used to calculate your APS Score

What Is The Lowest APS Score?

Your alternatives may appear limited if the results of your APS were less favorable than you had anticipated. However, there are solutions available to you regardless of your APS.
